Berlin - worth a visit
Berlin captivated us with its history, culture, and vibrant charm. From iconic landmarks like the Reichstag to the sprawling Tierpark Zoo, our short visit was packed with memorable moments—despite a few travel hurdles along the way.

We recently spent a few days in Berlin, and while the journey there was long, it was absolutely worth it. The drive took about eight hours on a Friday morning, and returning took around nine hours on Tuesday. The delay on the way back was due to a severe and deadly accident on the German autobahn A2 In the news: Vollsperrung auf der A2 infolge eines schweren Unfalls.
Travelling within Berlin is quite straightforward, thanks to the efficient public transportation system. However, buying tickets is not as simple. The apps and software in Germany can be quite challenging. It took us nearly an hour to purchase our tickets. After downloading the third app and reluctantly creating an account, I was finally able to buy a day pass for both of us.
While in Berlin, we visited some iconic sites. The Brandenburger Tor is a must-see, but a word of advice: avoid buying Bratwurst or Currywurst from the street vendors on the way there. The booth we tried was overpriced and low quality, and the others didn’t seem much better.
A highlight of our trip was visiting the German 1723643336-reichstag. After an informative lecture from a Reichstag staff member, we had the unique opportunity to take some extra photos of the famous sculpture known as “Die Fette Henne” (The Fat Hen). We then ascended to the top of the Reichstag and enjoyed an audio-guided tour all the way up to the Dome, where the views were spectacular.
Dining at the “Ständige Vertretung” restaurant is definitely worth it. This establishment pays homage to the former GDR representatives in Bonn before the fall of the Berlin Wall and offers delicious traditional German food.
Another recommendation is the Tierpark Zoo. It’s an enormous zoo, and if you’re short on time, it’s a good idea to plan ahead and decide which areas you want to visit. To truly explore the entire Tierpark, you’d need at least three days, especially if you enjoy reading all the informational signs and taking in everything the zoo has to offer.
And just like that, three days flew by. It was a wonderful and fascinating visit, and definitely not our last time in Berlin. The city has so much to offer, and life is too short to experience it all. As our friends warned us, the most difficult challenge is that you only have 24 hours in a day. With so many events and attractions, it’s impossible to see even a fraction of everything you might want to explore. So, choose wisely or consider adding an extra day or two to your itinerary.
